The 2011 Renault 4Lectric concept

For some time, the ideal has been to develop a zero-emissions automobile, yet now the Renault 4Lectric offers the possibility of a ride that can sustainably source even more power than it actually requires to run. A shortlisted entry in the Designboom Renault 4EVER Competition, this project certainly captures society’s dream.

The compact four-door vehicle lives and breathes efficiency, limiting the fuel necessary to keep it moving. Solar panels are the primary means of harnessing energy for its operation, which are integrated into the roof and windows of this innovative electric vehicle. Designer Charlie Ngehiem made the intelligent decision to install two separate batteries within the auto, allowing one to constantly soak up the sun’s rays while the other feeds the engine. The Renault 4Lectric never stops converting heat and light into power so that the surplus to be used sustainably within the home.
