The 2006 Audi R-Zero Concept

transport designer and two digital designers, Franck Levivier, Rémi Marchand and Pierre-Olivier Wagne from the International Design School, France, collaborated to build a concept supercar that could prove necessary at a period when the world would not be able to rely on oil as a power source. And as a result, the Audi R-Zero Concept car was developed. The design of the car was meant to possess the excitement factor, besides being environment friendly.

There are four separatein-wheel electric motors that projects 1091 horsepower. A line of batteries that are positioned just before the rear axle provides power to these motors. The electric drive train layout enabled the designers of R-Zero to take full advantage of the cooling airflow supplied by the grille at the front. There is a backbone frame which is hollow, and that runs across the horizontal length of the vehicle and channels airflow inside, through the front grille. Various objects like the brakes that are sensitive to temperature receives cooling air that gets distributed by this backbone frame. The air is then expelled out through the grille at the central rear.

The Bentley Aero Ace Speed VI concept car

The Bentley Aero Ace Speed VI is an innovative concept car, which betters efficiency with improved aerodynamics. The car is designed by the auto designer Gabriel Tam, who took the inspiration for the concept from the original Speed 6 driven to victory by the Bentley Boys of the ’20s at Le Mans. When designing the vehicle the creator aimed the Bentley Aero Ace not only to become a part of the future Bentley design aesthetic, but also paid great attention to reducing energy consumption.
The developer has concentrated on the aerodynamic properties of each element of the vehicle. The next-generation Speed VI also features improved efficiency and speed. The concept in a way identifies a new vehicle direction for Bentley that would appeal to the ecologically conscious car buyer.
The electric motor cooling system comes with air intakes and incorporates diffusers to ensure the air flow to create down-force. The wheels of the vehicle are semi enclosed, which also contributes the aerodynamics, while the 1+1 seating arrangement offers focused driving experience.

The Pininfarina Alfa Romeo Spider concept car

Pininfarina, an Italian car design studio, has released to the public the teaser image of their new Alfa Romeo concept. The vehicle is designed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the car manufacturer Alfa Romeo, and the 80th birthday of Pininfarina. The company has not announced the official name of the concept yet, but was unveiled to the public at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Alpha-Romeo Pandion concept

While the company refused to release performance specifications, they stated that the Pandion is powered by the 4.7-liter V8 with 450 bhp and 470 Nm of torque from the 8C Competizione.

The Sbarro Autobau concept

This year replica builder Sbarro and Swiss performance car introduced another new concept at the Geneva Motor Show. The Sbarro Autobau is sure to tear up the pavement powered by a 500-horsepower 12-cylinder engine from Ferrari.Whether you love it or hate it, the Autobau is the only car of its kind at Geneva. While the three-pointed front end look like something from Speed Racer, it has also been compared with the Cylon Raider from Battlestar Galactica and the Pink Panther-mobile.

The SAAB Spyker Supercar concept

One of the first things that occurred to many Saab enthusiasts after the completion of the long-winded sale of the Swedish automaker to Spyker was the possibility of a supercar based on the underpinnings of a Spyker model.
No doubt, we’re sure that the creation of a supercar is (rightfully) not among the top priorities of the people who manage the newly formed SAAB Spyker Automobiles, as there are much more important issues to take care of at the time being.
However, independent designer Eduard Gray took it upon himself to digitally visualize a conceptual mid-engined Saab supercar that would make use of Spyker hardware.
“The union of Saab and Spyker provides a unique chance to create a design that takes the best of each brand and distills their qualities into a single product”, the designer says in his website.

The Zero Impact Vehicle concept

ZIV or Zero Impact Vehicle is a two-seater concept which was designed by Christopher Latta. The innovative concept is created for a greener life style for busy urban environment. It uses only reclaimed or recycled materials.
This futuristic vehicle is for efficient city use. The concept is powered by a hydrogen fuel battery, which generates water as the final mechanical waste and which can be preserved in a holding tank so as to use later.
The vehicle is special with its motionless rim design, where the tire travels around the rim by utilizing maglev unit like magnets that controls braking functions and all propulsion. The levitation magnets, which are located under the time, also serve as shock absorbers. The driver of this concept will be able to achieve balance on rough terrain through more powers on the magnets by the fuel cell and zero radius turning can be done with ZIV because of its two tires design, which make it easier to navigate and park on busy city streets.

The Falcon Hybrid Jet Vehicle

Designer Samir Sadikhov has created the Falcon Hybrid Jet Vehicle for Bridgestone to carry the jet turbines on the end of the concept car. The vehicle comes with the balancing technology, which includes five gyroscopes and two tilt sensors.
The concept of Falcon Hybrid Jet Vehicle, being a type to rocket type vehicle, is equipped with two wheels at the front side and no wheels at the rear. The hybrid jet can be switched into city “segway” mode by using the two wheels for ease of commuting around the congested urban area.

The DOK-ING XD electric concept car

A Croatian made DOK-ING XD superb electric car. In spite of the fact that it uses electric as the main source of energy, it is able to reach 100km/h from a standstill position in a mere 7.7 seconds.
The second quickest electric car is compared with Tesla Roadster Electric Car that is capable to reach 60mph within a mere 3.9 seconds!
This record is achievable due to its 80kW/360Nm electric motor, powered by XD’s banks of lithium-ion-phosphate batteries. Other peculiarity is the rapid design process to manufacturing. It took only three months to complete DOK-ING XD project from concept for manufacturing.
A single recharge would let DOK-ING XD reach 200-250km, a bit shorter in distance to Tesla Roadster’s 480-500km per single recharge.
Weighing 1,100kg DOK-ING XD has a dimension of 1.7-metres in width and 2.8-metres in length, DOK-ING XD obtains the same level of height as some other small SUVs at approx. 1.6-metres tall.

The 1965 Dodge Deora concept

This unbelievable weird 1965 Dodge Deora concept was put for auction in 2009. Built for the Detroit Autorama back in the ’60s, by some hot-roddy types called Mike and Larry Alexander, the Deora later became one of the original Hot Wheels toy cars. The more astute among you may have noticed the lack of doors. But instead of slithering in through the side windows, the front of the cab opens like a venus flytrap – allowing the driver to bundle in rear-first. (Link)

The Magnet Car concept

The Magnet Car was designed by Matúš Procháczka as a solution to the challenge of finding more fuel efficient methods of transport. This car uses magnets the same polarity as the road, which effectively ‘lifts’ the car off the road, making it lighter by 50%. Of course, this is a true ‘concept car’, as magnetized roads are a purely hypothetical idea, and yet to be realized. (Link)

The 1969 Toyota EX-III concept

Shown at the 1969 Tokyo Motor Show, the EX-III was a big brother of a former concept model. The larger body was even more aerodynamic, being built very low with a pointed front (no bumper), a long bonnet, sharply sloped sides and a tapered rear. Large exhaust outlets hinted at a gas turbine engine but no details were given. (Link)

The Mazda Nagare concept

The Nagare (pronounced “na-ga-re”) is a concept car that was introduced by Mazda at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Nagare is considered to be an exercise in natural and organic car design to explore the future of Mazda automobiles. Its name “Nagare” translates into English as “flow” and the designers specifically studied motion and the effect it has on natural surroundings when creating this vehicle. It was designed by Laurens van den Acker, Mazda’s global design director, and his advanced design studio team in Irvine, California. The Mazda Nagare is a celebration of proportions and surface language according to its designers. Its bodylines flow like liquid across its smooth seamless design and there are no distinguishing marks that detract from the overall theme of the car. It has a large windshield that rakes at a very steep angle molding itself into the glass roof of the car. Its large and aggressive wheels are wrapped into the wheel wells, incorporating them as a part of the body. (Link)

The A360 Concept Car

The A360 Concept from designer Huynh Ngoc Lan looks like a crossbreed between a UFO and some stealth fighter jet. Not that the concept is bad, it is just sort of weird. The triangular body has a panoramic glass roof, then there is the camera system on the exteriors that works to provide the driver with additional feedback. The car moves on three spheres, not wheels, which actually makes some sense considering that it is capable of moving in any direction on the ground.
Since the wheels are spherical, they need not move as the car makes a radical change in angle. To settle well with the new direction, the cabin is capable of a full rotation. To accommodate these functions, the steering wheel has undergone a bit of a change. A control ball takes the role of a steering wheel, with integrated functions for right, left and rotation. (Link)

The Peugeot Egochine Concept Car

You thought the three-bar razor blade grille Ford’s using lately was Gillette-inspired, check out Egochine, a single-person, tripod finalist in the Peugeot design contest. Creator Paolo De Giusti says it’s “a vehicle built to carry a person very self-centered.” The car’s conceived with a hydrogen fuel cell in the fuselage mounted ahead of the rear-seated driver and powering a pair of electric motors turning to the front. It takes inspiration from the fabulously-bodied Isotta-Faschini’s and other coach-built classics. It also seems to take inspiration from the Gillette Fusion Power razor. (Link)

The eRinGo Concept Car

The eRinGo electric concept car is a ring-shaped vehicle that has a large wheel running around its center, while two medium sized wheels are present on each side. When the car is in motion, these wheels help it across turns, and when the car is still these wheels extend to provide balance and support. A rotor/ gyro system in the car helps it maintain balance on the single wheel. The two seater concept has steering wheels for both passengers, allowing either to take control. (Link)

The P-Eco concept

Although it looks a bit too sci-fi for the desert, The P-Eco vehicle definitely looks at home since the lack of a roof may prove annoying in other climates. Designed by Jung-Hoon Kim, the P-Eco vehicle is an electric car is actually made to make life easier in the city. The Aurora safety car

The Aurora Safety car was a creation of American catholic priest Alfredo Juliano. His design was not graced by the hand of God. Designed with safety for passengers and pedestrians as the only concern, the Aurora’s appearance was an afterthought. And the car has been hailed by many as the ugliest vehicle of all time. Safety features of this hideous creation include; safety belts – rare in 1957, foam filled bumpers mounted on gas shocks, roll over bars built into the perspex dome roof, and a telescopic steering column. All it requires is the press of a button to get the seats oriented to your preference. Aside from the seats, the footrests and handlebars can also be adjusted. The minimally designed e-bike manages to retain an aggressive look despite the lack of a fuel tank and a bulky chassis.
